Tribal Tattoo

Considered to be one of the most popular forms of tattoos, tribal tattoo refers to any tattoo style outside the domain of Western world. Tribal tattoo design refers to tattoos created thousands of years ago in Africa and Pacific Islands. What separates tribal tattoos from other tattoos is the use of aggressive dark lines in jagged symmetrical shapes spread throughout the skin. Tribal tattoos are created in black and skin tones but can also be infused with color for brightening their overall look. Tribal tattoo was an unknown identity in the western world until it was introduced quite recently. The only introduction to the Western world about the tribal tattoo was picture books which were drawn by scientists in the 18th and 19th centuries. These books highlighted the tattoo work of cultures in the Marquesas islands and the Maori tribes of New Zealand and were often regarded as form of exotic pornography in Europe.

Tribal tattoo design was not a big hit until Leo Zuleta, a tattoo artist from LA borrowed a notebook from his friend about tribal tattoo and used them on LA rock bands in the 90s. Tribal tattoo design were then fused with modern designs known as pseudo tribal or neo tribal and as result gained more popularity over the years.

Tribal tattoos carry a sense of appeal and reinforce a positive feeling about ourselves and therefore make a connection to element of mystery and ancient activity. Tribal tattoo has witnesses a revival over the years and seems to have come back in the popularity charts. You may even find morphed tribal tattoos and even find depiction of battles and their popularity has already crossed and reached the Western world.
